Description
Mouse ear hawkweed is a mat forming perennial with creeping stolons. The flower stalk and basal leaves are covered in glandular hairs, mostly white hairs but sometimes reddish on the stem. The lemon-yellow flower heads emerge as individual flowers on slender leafless stems, with the outermost ligules having a reddish underside. With the stems sitting on a rosette of leaves, this perennial plant favours dry, sunny areas. It grows well on sand dunes, chalky soils, and similarly less fertile well-drained soil ground types; such as waste ground.
