Description

Known as Jacob’s-ladder or Greek valerian, Polemonium caeruleum is native to damp grasslands, woodlands, meadows. The plant was first used as a medicinal herb in ancient Greece. The root was employed by ancient Greeks in the treatment of dysentery, toothaches, and animal bites. Presently, the plant is commonly utilised in potpourris and infused in olive oil for producing black dyes and hair dressing, though its applications are limited beyond these purposes.

Polemonium caeruleum is an attractive low-maintenance plant, producing a lovely flush of flowers in summer with tall green foliage growing to around 60cm. Plant in moist but well-draining soil in most soil types. Full sun or partial shade.
