Description
Fritillaria Meleagris is a fantastic bulb planter that goes by a few common names including snakehead fritillary, snakehead (the original English name), chess flower (because of the chequered pattern), guinea-hen flower, guinea flower, frog-cup, leper lily (because the shape resembled the bell once carried by lepers), Lazarus bell, chequered lily, chequered daffodil, drooping tulip or, in northern Europe, simply fritillary. It’s dull purple flowers sit atop slender stems that bloom in March and April. Prefers moist soils that are well-drained.
