Serratula tinctoria is found in low lands across the UK where there is moist soil, such as mires,  woodland edges, and grassland habitats. The thin stems can grow to 2-3 feet tall with architectural looking branches. Even the flower buds are interesting before flowering with symmetrical diamond shapes. Flower heads bloom mid-summer.
