Description

Monkshood also known as tiger’s bane, or dogs bain also on occasion as Wolfs Bain but that is normally the yellow monkshood. Flowers late in summer either blue and sometimes white. Will handle both part shade and sun well but they do prefer moist well drained soil,

Always wash your hands after handling monkshood or wear gloves. You’ll find many references in literature to monkshood being used to kill enemies. Do not grow this plant around young children or curious pets. That said, monkshood has been safely cultivated in gardens for hundreds of years. It is a lovely flower, just use caution when handling it.

Often this species needs to be planted just before the frost or needs a long period of cold for Stratification, so its seed dormancy can be overcome.

ALL PARTS OF THIS PLANT ARE POISONOUS.
