Marestail bareroot (Hippurus vulgaris)
Hippurus vulgaris an erect, unbranched, perennial water dweller. Has conspicuous spikes above the surface, but largely submerged in fairly fast water. Marginal/deeper. Flowers: June – July. Height: up to 20cm Zone BC (dispatched April – October)
The common mare’s tail is a creeping, perennial herb, found in shallow waters and mud flats. It roots underwater, but most of its leaves are above the water surface.
