Description

Known by the common names lesser knapweed, common knapweed and black knapweed, Although the plant is often unwanted by landowners because it is considered a weed by many, it provides a great deal of nectar for pollinators. It was rated in the top 5 for most nectar production. With a conservation status of common here in the UK, they aren’t too hard to come by. Being such a great source of nectar, the honey bee absolutely loves the flower head knapweed produces. Common knapweed blooms with pink and purple flower heads in the style of tubular florets sitting upon ribbed stems. A great meadow perennial, they flower mid to late summer.
