Description

Commonly known as herb-Robert, red robin, death come quickly, storksbill, fox geranium, stinking Bob, squinter-pip (Shropshire), crow’s foot, In traditional herbalism, the wildflower herb Robert was used as a remedy for toothache and nosebleeds and as a vulnerary (used for or useful in healing wounds such as mosquito bites). Chewing on the fresh leaves can relieve sore mouth and throat symptoms.

The name has been explained as a reference to abbot and herbalist Robert of Molesme. Freshly picked green basal leaves have a distinctive smell resembling burning tyres when crushed. If they are rubbed on the body the smell is said to repel mosquitoes and treat some skin conditions.

Pink and white flowers with reddish seed pods. Herb Robert geranium is a low growing plant and wild flower which blooms mid-late spring to late summer. Small, pink, five-petalled flower stalks sit atop the hairy plant found commonly at woodland edges, and shady spots like hedgerows and verges also.

A member of the hardy geranium family, it can survive right through hot summer months. Herb Robert seed capsules allow this plant to spread quickly, and can be an invasive weed.
