Description
Common Figwort Scrophularia names include figwort, woodland figwort, and common figwort. Once thought to be able to cure scrofula throat disease because of its throat-like shape by the doctrine of signatures.
Common figwort can be found in woodlands and other damp soils along hedgerows. A relatively tall plant growing to around 80-90cm tall, with showy leaf stalks – making a great ornamental garden plant. The square stems bear gorgeous maroon flowers over the summer months.
