Branched bur-reed can reach a height of 1.5 metres. The flower stalk is branched (unlike its relative the Un branched Bur-reed in which a single stem with out branches carries the flowers) The leaves are usually erect but occasionally they lie floating on the surface of the water. Individual flower clusters are un stalked, those at the top of the spike being male whereas the larger bur-like flowers lower down are female. They Like shallow pool margins about 45 cm deep with sun or partial shade.
