Description

Bittersweet solanum occurs in a very wide range of habitats, from woodlands to scrub land, hedges and marshes, has various names bittersweet nightshade, bitter nightshade, blue bindweed, Amara Dulcis, climbing nightshade, fellenwort, felonwood, poisonberry, poisonflower, scarlet berry, snakeberry, trailing bittersweet, trailing nightshade, violet bloom, and woody nightshade. This plant is one of the less poisonous members of the Solanaceae. Instances of poisoning in humans are very rare on account of the fruit’s intensely bitter taste. Incidentally, the fruit has been reported to have a sweet aftertaste, hence the vernacular name bittersweet.

Bittersweet solanum is a hardy plant that suits most growing conditions, suitable for a wide range of soil types, in full sun or shade.
