Buy Semi & Fixed Dune Wildflower Online at Naturescape

As sand dune systems develop, they move through several natural stages, each supporting different plant communities and wildlife. Semi-fixed and fixed dunes represent more established habitats where vegetation has begun to stabilise the sand and create the conditions needed for greater biodiversity.

Semi-fixed dunes still experience some sand movement but are increasingly held together by plant root systems. Species such as Autumn Hawkbit, Bloody Cranesbill, Common Catsear, and Common Vetch help bind the sand, enrich the soil, and provide nectar and pollen for insects. These plants play an important role in strengthening dune structure while supporting pollinators.

Fixed dunes are the more mature stage beyond mobile and semi-fixed dunes. Over time, vegetation breaks down and forms a layer of humus, reducing bare sand and allowing a wider range of wildflowers to establish. These dunes support more diverse and stable plant communities and are essential for long-term habitat resilience.

Between dune ridges, dune slacks can form where hollows dip below the dune water table. These areas may hold freshwater pools that are vital for wildlife, including species such as the natterjack toad. Healthy dune systems rely on the balance between dry dune ridges and wet dune slacks to support a wide range of flora and fauna.

Our semi-fixed and fixed dune wildflower species are grown to support restoration and conservation projects at different stages of dune development. By selecting the right plants for each habitat type, it is possible to strengthen dune stability, increase biodiversity, and protect these fragile coastal environments for the future.

Dear All,

Just to say thank you, the plugs of Yellow Rattle arrived today.

Just superb, thank you,

Laurence Milton

Once again you have done a fab job! Good plants, well packed and sent early for me as I am away soon. Thank you SO much, I recommend you to everyone who needs wild flowers

Sara Cowley

Just had my first order and I’m so pleased with the quality of the plants and the superb condition they arrived in, thank you so much for a very fast and efficient service and such healthy vibrant plants!

Vicky Sharpe

I just wanted to say thanks so much for your speedy delivery of my plants. I’m particularly excited by the yellow rattle, as I’ve been trying to grow this from seed for several years with no success at all – so I’m going out now to plant it! Thank you – I’ll definitely keep a note of your website.

Gill Upham

The Bluebells have arrived this morning and look top class.

They will be planted later today.

Once again many thanks

Gerald Pykett

“Always love visiting here and there was so much colour & scent this weekend!

In the cafe this time (alongside the usual favourites and Victoria sponge) there was an absolutely delicious courgette and pistachio cake which is gluten free so handy for anyone needing this option. Soya milk is now available too, so brilliant for anyone needing a dairy free option for drinks.”

Sue Lockwood

Love going here. Fabulous food, fantastic friendly team and natural area to walk around. Another plus is watching the parachuters!

Fiona Moore

100 Galanthus nivalis ‘in the green’ arrived safely this morning. As always from Naturescape, they were in excellent condition although why I expected them not to be in flower, I have no idea since there are thousands of them in bloom across the viallage just now. I must get planting! Thank you!

Myra Miller

Lovely food and friendly staff. Sat watching the parachutes coming down from Langar airport next door. Would come back in the spring/summer

Sarah Holmes

Lovely place to walk around and visit. Lots to see in different areas, with all types of wildflower. Had a jacket potato in the cafe and it was cooked to perfection. Will definitely visit again.

Beverley Holmes

Quality wildflowers, really helpful advice, excellent service!

I must have ordered well over 50 plants over the summer of 2025 and ALL of them have taken really well, not 1 has failed! Plants always arrive well packed and in moist soil, looking very healthy.

Mathew Symmonds

“Relaxing atmosphere with plenty natural plants & seeds to buy,

Homemade cakes, tea & coffee served in China teapot and cups.
A great refreshing time there, and staff are always helpful and kind.”
