How we produce our own seed and flowers - part one

Soil preparation

Ploughed between October and June depending on the soil type and previous crop. Land is then cultivated using a power harrow seen to the right.

Seeding

Seeds are drilled using the machine opposite.

Growing Season

Once established, plants are allowed to complete their growing cycle, producing amazing displays during the summer months. The photo opposite is a strip of Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi) in flower.

Harvest

The final stage of the field work is harvest. This carried out using a cabless combine pictured opposite. Seed is bagged off the combine and moved to the store for the next stage - cleaning and storage.
