Naturescape offer bare root pond plants for sale over the internet - potted plants are available at the visitor centre. Pond plants are best introduced during their most active growth period which commences in late May / early June. In a similar way to summer bedding plants, they can be severely checked by a frost if planted early.

Generally speaking, the vast majority of plants are at their best from July to Spetember - with the exception of marsh marigold and water hawthorn which flower in early Spring. On receipt of your bare root pond plants, they should be planted into the soil of a natural pond. In a lined or plastic pond, put plants into baskets (which can be supplied with your order) ideally filling with a clay loam. For most marginal plants (pond edge), we recommend planting into baskets of 1litre, or 2litres for specimen plants. Dwarf lilies are also planted in 2 litre pots, large lilies should be planted in 5 - 10 litre pots.

Naturescape specialises in creating native wildlife ponds etc. - please contact us for further information Before you proceed to pond plant catalogue page, we recommend you print out the above diagram - each hydrosere has a letter associated with it - know as a zone. In the catalogue description of the plants we sell, there is a corresponding letter to the zone or zones that are most appropriate for that plant
